WHERE IT ALL STARTED
Simon Lenger
“I can still remember the time when I was a young boy and my father, the founder of Lenger Seafoods, taught me the tricks of the trade. He showed me the resources, raw materials, fishermen, the fishing – and processing techniques. In that period we were mainly engaged in fishing shellfish for the export to England in particular. I was also taught that the development and ongoing investment in quality were important. And now, many decades later, I look at the result of this vision with pride. Our traditional and practical approach is the signature of the products which we will continue to sell to the market.”
OUR HISTORY
Lenger Seafoods
Lenger Seafoods has been around since 1925...
In it’s very first years Lenger Seafoods started with fishing of anchovy and herring for the various markets. The product range was soon supplemented with cockles, which in those days were still salted in baskets and delivered to England. By continuously investing in development and quality improvement, Lenger Seafoods was always at the forefront of the European cockle market. The company experienced strong years with the mechanical cockle fishing on the Wadden Sea in the North of Holland. But times changed, mechanical cockle fishing was discontinued for sustainability reasons and the Dutch cockle industry continued the fishery based on traditional manual fishing technique with the so-called “Wonderklauw”.
This market leadership largely rests on Lenger Seafoods' strong supply chain...
Lenger Seafoods’ strong supply chain, is optimizing the process from the source to the shop. Today, this approach applies to a wide range of shellfish and crustaceans. They come from many sources across the world. The Lenger Seafoods Group continued to expand the company’s activities in Europe but also in other parts of the world, like in North Vietnam. The main focus remains to constantly look for the best raw materials, which is the starting point for all products fished, processed and exported by Lenger Seafoods, worldwide. One of Lenger Seafoods’ most recent investments have been made in a modern de-sanding.
SUPPLY CHAIN
